Now that Australian restaurants have opened up again for business, it’s important to figure out how to get music working for your dining venue. The importance of forming a positive ambience for your customers get the most out of their dining experience, cannot be understated. Music is core to this.

Chris Lucas, CEO of the Lucas Restaurant Group, is one of those now surfing the new wave of casualised, accessible dining. This ‘democratic’ dining experience spills over into his embrace of music in his venues and directly outside his venues, as seen in the Wall of Art projection space as part of the Lucas Group restaurant Chin Chin, OneMusic licensee in Melbourne’s Flinders Lane.

“Music is the centrepiece of any space, be it a restaurant or any other social meeting place, which attempts to create an environment which stimulates, brings it to life,” said Chris.

One of the artists showcased at the Wall of Art, Mia Salsjo, works in a variety of mediums including video, composing original classical music, and large material works and drawings. “I combine music and visual in my video art…I was approached by artist and curator of the Wall of Art at Chin Chin, Kat Clarke…with my work, I really wanted the Chin Chin diners to have a bold visual feast of colour and movement – an ‘extra adventure’ at the dining table,” Mia said.

Chin Chin has also opened in Sydney, with a similar vibe and importance placed on the dining experience. “The dining, music and art scenes converge at Chin Chin and we’re an instigator in them, never just a spectator,” Chin Chin Sydney notes on their website.

The range of Lucas Group Restaurants are focused on involving the community and adding a sensory experience to dining, as well as hosting events, such as an upcoming New Years Eve event. “Engaging with the local community and culture is extremely important to us, with all our venues,” says Chris Lucas.
