Top3 By Design's unique boutique retail experience

Top3 By Design showcases the three best items from a category for a unique authentic experience, taking the same approach to in-store music.

OneMusic licensees top3 By Design have created a unique boutique retail concept, where authenticity and high-quality are brought to the fore. Developed by Terri Winter, the concept is simple – the stores showcase the three best items from around the world in their respective class/category based on merit of design. This ensures that shoppers know that they are getting the very best product in terms of form, function and sustainability.

“we cater to a surprisingly large segment of the homemaker marketplace: those who are either driven by a quality design philosophy, or those who want to be surrounded by cutting edge bespoke pieces in their nest, regardless of the brand,” said Terri Winter.

Top3 by design focuses on the authenticity of products and believes wholeheartedly in fostering design. So all top3 products are 100% authentic, and sourced directly from the original designer. The company applies this same concept to music.

“Away from a legal compliance point of view, cutting out the author in any creative field can only lead to a downward spiral,” said Terri. The importance of crediting the designer for their work can be translated to the importance of crediting a songwriter for their work.

With such a unique and bespoke experience for customers, the value of music in store, as well as via hold music and even head office & the warehouse, cannot be understated.

“We often have a fluid arrangement with music in-store and we allow the staff to have input. Staff have often studied design and architecture, so we entrust them to have the brand identity top of mind. I say to the staff, if it sounds like top3 – sophisticated, high quality, unique- then it gets air time,” Terri said.

Top3 team's top three songs to play in-store:

'When I get home' - Solange

'Moon safari' - Air

'Blackbird' - Fat Freddy’s Drop

Hon mentions:

Taylor Swift (before opening Taylor Swift is my go to for working before we open (and sometimes after!) - Terri

'Play it on my radio' - Niki & the Dove

'Lovers Rock' - Sade

Top3 by design’s conceptual retail experience is a great metaphoric representation of the important aspects of crediting artists for their work. Top3 By Design have showrooms in Crows Nest, Sydney and Richmond, in Melbourne.
